Edutravellers with shining smiles

18 czerwca 2024

On Friday 14 June, 25 young people from foster care facilities in Olsztyn, Skopanie, Łuków and Stoczek Łukowski made an educational trip to the Colgate-Palmolive office!

Colgate is a long-standing partner

Colgate is a long-standing partner of the Foundation for Good Initiatives, which supports activities for children in foster care, including renovation work. The global company’s Warsaw team is committed to employee volunteerism, which is why they were so eager to host EduTravelers, giving the young people a chance to get to know the people behind the bright smiles and clean hands of thousands of Poles, but most importantly, to take part in workshops on financial skills and effective communication.

Workshops on financial skills and effective communication

The first workshop began with a theoretical part, providing answers to the seemingly simple question of 'what does it actually mean to communicate? This was followed by practical work on social skills through exercises and simulations of communication situations. In the scenarios, each person took on a slightly different role in order to achieve the goal of being understood.

The second workshop was dedicated to financial literacy and included a game that showed different risks and consequences of household budget decisions. This is a key issue, given the difficulty of managing finances wisely and responsibly, especially for people leaving foster care shortly after reaching adulthood.

The challenge was also to open the eyes of the main pupils to business perspectives: financial and investment instruments. Children from foster care facilities can navigate the market as adults, taking risks, sometimes losing and sometimes winning – just like everybody else. That’s the added value of the EduTravel: breaking down stereotypes and encouraging participants to think about the future.

EduTravelling teaches and fosters social relationships. The workshops provide a space for integration. The accumulated social capital could be invested in entertainment and the young people spent it at the Invisible Exhibition in Warsaw. The investment paid off and more!
