Thanks to collaboration with our business partners\u2014<strong data-start=\"342\" data-end=\"363\">Colgate-Palmolive<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"368\" data-end=\"385\">Lenovo Poland<\/strong>\u2014three young women from residential care facilities have just begun <strong data-start=\"453\" data-end=\"485\">summer internships in Warsaw<\/strong>, which will run until the end of the holidays.<\/p>\n<h1 data-start=\"534\" data-end=\"608\">First Steps into Adulthood\u2014Our Interns Begin Their Professional Journey!<\/h1>\n<p data-start=\"610\" data-end=\"1121\">Over the two-month summer break, under the attentive care of mentors, FGI interns will undergo training, gain hands-on work experience, and learn the specifics of life inside international corporations. It will also be a valuable rehearsal in independence: in safe conditions and under the guidance of professional supervisors, they will experience living on their own in the capital\u2014from planning and organising everyday duties to managing a modest personal budget. The interns will receive pay for their work.<\/p>\n<h1 data-start=\"1123\" data-end=\"1176\">Where Are Our Interns Headed\u2014and What Will They Do?<\/h1>\n<p data-start=\"1178\" data-end=\"1652\">One of the young women has taken a <strong data-start=\"1213\" data-end=\"1253\">front-desk role at Colgate-Palmolive<\/strong> and, from July, will be the master of first impressions. Greeting guests, handling correspondence and calls, booking meeting rooms, collaborating with the team\u2014this will be her daily routine, and a chance to develop competencies such as communication, time management, work organisation, and self-confidence. It\u2019s an excellent foundation for every challenge to come\u2014professional and personal alike.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1654\" data-end=\"2168\">Two further interns have started their professional adventure with our long-standing partner, <strong data-start=\"1748\" data-end=\"1765\">Lenovo Poland<\/strong>, taking on tasks in <strong data-start=\"1786\" data-end=\"1804\">Administration<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1809\" data-end=\"1823\">Operations<\/strong>. There they will learn what it means to work with documentation, manage a vehicle fleet, operate sales systems, and collaborate with commercial partners. These can be real challenges that build a sense of responsibility and teach teamwork\u2014all in an atmosphere of openness, where it is safe to ask questions, learn, and grow in courage for life.<\/p>\n<h1 data-start=\"2170\" data-end=\"2193\">Why Does This Matter?<\/h1>\n<p data-start=\"2195\" data-end=\"2676\">Our report, <strong data-start=\"2207\" data-end=\"2232\">\u201cStarting Adulthood,\u201d<\/strong> shows that only <strong data-start=\"2249\" data-end=\"2256\">12%<\/strong> of care-leavers from children\u2019s homes receive meaningful support in finding a job. That is a dramatically low figure\u2014and it speaks volumes about the difficulties young people face after leaving care. They lack networks, experience, and\u2014often\u2014belief in their own abilities. What many of us take for granted\u2014help in finding a first job, a paid internship, a supportive web of contacts\u2014is frequently out of reach for them.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2678\" data-end=\"3279\">That is why at FGI we design internship programmes that are <strong data-start=\"2738\" data-end=\"2772\">much more than work experience<\/strong>. They broaden horizons and reveal new avenues for growth. They create a safe space for decision-making\u2014and for changing one\u2019s mind\u2014as well as a concrete step towards independence. The internships we organise with partners are <strong data-start=\"2999\" data-end=\"3007\">paid<\/strong>; we also provide our beneficiaries with <strong data-start=\"3048\" data-end=\"3079\">accommodation and insurance<\/strong>. Above all, we offer <strong data-start=\"3101\" data-end=\"3147\">support, understanding, and the conviction<\/strong> that young people from foster care have the same rights\u2014and the same potential\u2014as anyone else to build a solid professional future.<\/p>\n<h1 data-start=\"3281\" data-end=\"3328\">\u201cI\u2019m Not Sure I Can Do It, But I Want to Try\u201d<\/h1>\n<p data-start=\"3330\" data-end=\"3661\">It\u2019s a sentence we hear often from our beneficiaries\u2014and that willingness to act despite uncertainty deserves the greatest respect. Our interns are <strong data-start=\"3478\" data-end=\"3485\">not<\/strong> treated as \u201cparticipants in a charitable scheme.\u201d They have been welcomed into teams on equal terms\u2014as young people with every right to develop, learn, ask questions, and try.<\/p>\n<h1 data-start=\"3663\" data-end=\"3702\">We Believe This Is Only the Beginning<\/h1>\n<p data-start=\"3704\" data-end=\"3978\">We watch with hope as our interns enter the world of work. And we know that this first step\u2014perhaps the hardest\u2014is the start of something good.
